    How does the program work?

    Each year, approximately 7,000 women in Austria are diagnosed with breast cancer.

    Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women. Mammograms are the best method for early detection of breast cancer. Austria offers a free program for the early detection of breast cancer for all women aged 40 and older who have no visible signs of breast cancer.

     

    For breast cancer screening, you can contact any participating radiology facility.

    A list of contact information for your state is included with the reminder letter that is sent to you by mail every two years. You can also find all of the facilities in Austria at

    Who can participate & how?

    between 45 and 74 years

    Women between the ages of 45 and 74 can schedule an appointment to get a mammogram every two years.  All they need is their e-card!

    between 40 and 44 years
    & 75 years

    Women between the ages of 40 and 44 and those over 75 can sign up for the program by registering online or by calling the serviceline: 0800 500 181 (Mon.–Fri., 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.).

     

    Your e-card will be activated for the screening, and you can then schedule an appointment and use your e-card to visit a participating radiologist to have a mammogram for early detection.

     

    You will receive your invitation about one week after you register.

    Please make sure to bring your e-card with you to the appointment. You do not need to bring the invitation.

    Important

    If you have symptoms, have been diagnosed with breast cancer, are undergoing follow-up care for breast cancer, or have a family history that puts you at increased risk for breast cancer, your doctor can refer you at any time and on an individual basis for a mammogram or other necessary examinations.
